Description |
Silver metal hydrant wrench. The wrench has a smaller handle but is a large gage for a nut. The handle is slightly tapered at the end. There are letters scratched into the handle that appear to be a "C" and a "O" and "M". There is some red staining on the handle. This wrench may have been used for fire nozzle attachments. |
Provenance |
This artifact was used by the Rossland Fire Department and was part of the BC Fire Fighters Museum collection before it was donated to the Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre. Rossland's original fire hall was built in 1901 and located on the corner of First Avenue and Queen Street. In its early days, two paid firemen stayed in the hall while on shift and were supported by a group of volunteer firefighters. The City of Rossland made use of the second floor for its administrative offices and council chambers shortly after the building’s completion, sharing the building with the firemen for many years. The RCMP and Ambulance Services have also occupied parts of the building at various points in time. Over the years the original Rossland Fire Hall has been home to several different operations. In the 1990s it housed the BC Fire Fighter's Museum. The Museum opened in 1992. The museum closed after only a few years of operations. Today, the Fire Hall is home to Rossland's Mook Thai restaurant. |
