Description |
Rectangular, dark yellow-orange ski gate flag from the 1968 du Maurier International held on Red Mountain with a souvenir pin attached. The flag has a large vertical rectangle logo in the centre and "du MAURIER INTERNATIONAL" in large red letters across the bottom. The logo consists of two thick, curved white shapes (reminiscent of skis) in the centre with a red section on the left and a blue section on the right (two-thirds of the logo). The white shapes curve outwards and there is a thin black line separating the two. The top of the logo is black with a white and blue globe in the centre. The interior of the globe has "du" and a large M. The reverse of the flag has an identical design. The edges of the flag are finished with a light-yellow fabric border. There is a large metal rivet on each of the left side corners. A black shoelace is attached to each of the rivets. A round, white button with red and white ribbons is attached to the top right corner of the flag. The button has the same logo as the flag with "du MAURIER" in red lettering and "INTERNATIONAL" in black. Thick red and white ribbons with scalloped bottoms extend from the bottom of the button. |

The 1968 du Maurier International was held at Red Mountain from March 28-31. The du Maurier was Canada’s first World Cup event and was the second-to-last event in the 1968 World Cup circuit. The competition consisted of slalom and giant slalom races for both men and women. Overall, the du Maurier brought approximately 130 (75 men and 55 women) of the world's best skiers to Rossland, plus coaches, spectators, and international media. Over 7,000 spectators lined the course to watch the competitors dominate the hill. Excitingly, Nancy Greene won her second consecutive World Championship title after winning the giant slalom event in front of her hometown crowd. |
