Description |
Set of two surgical probes. Numbers used in this accession include 2009.5.4a and 2009.5.4b. The probes are identical with the exception that the head of 2009.5.4a is slightly larger. See below for details. Surgical probe with a large, rectangular/oval shaped handle with a short shaft with a threaded/ribbed head on the end. The handle is brass and has soft edge and a round bottom. The shaft gently is silver and tapers up to the head. The head has vertical ridges and a pointed tip. There is a maker's mark engraved on one side of the shaft (see inscription) and "stainless" is on the other. 2009.5.4b: |

Provenance |
Salvaged from Mater Misericordiae Hospital by the donor. Was used in surgeries in the 1940s. Mater Misericordiae Hospital opened on Columbia and Georgia Street on 4 July 1897 by the Sisters of St. Joseph. The Sister ran the hospital until 1969 when its operation was turned over to the Provincial Ministry of Health. The Hospital was known locally as Mater Mis. The Rossland Health Care Society who operated the Mater Misericordiae Hospital amalgamated with the Great Trail Community Health Council on 1 April 1997.
