Description |
Full tea service with images of Rossland buildings. Includes a teapot, creamer, two cups and saucers and two dessert plates. The bottom of each is stamped "Made in Germany". Items in this accession include 1971.382.8a-h. See below for details. 1971.382.8a: Teacup with a colourful image of a building, underneath it says "Rossland Post Office" The cup is round in shape with a wider rim than base. The rim and base both have waved design. The reverse where the handle is is yellow with gold filigree patterns and the rim is metallic. 1971.382.8b: Small, circular saucer that's white with a purple-hued metallic border along the edge. It's been broken and glued back together, has a waved rim and gold circle in the center. 1971.382.8c: Small teapot with a coloured glaze all over. The teapot is white with yellow colouring through the background. The handle is curved and it and the spout have a gold filigree design. There's a small lid and the base of it as with the top of the kettle has oxidized to a purple-coloured hue. One side has an image of buildings with a gold border and underneath it says "Rossland Post Office" and the other side has the same with different buildings and says "Courthouse Columbua Ave. Rossland BC" 1971.382.8d: Small teacup with an image facing front of a building and "Courthouse Columbua Ave. Rossland BC" written underneath. The cup is round in shape with a wider rim than base. The rim and base both have waved design. The reverse where the handle is is yellow with gold filigree patterns and the rim is metallic. 1971.382.8e: Small circular saucer similar to b. Metallic rim, waved pattern along the edge and a gold circle in the center. Has been broken across and glued back together. 1971.382.8f: Small, round plate with an image of a building in the center, a gold circular border and "Post Office, Rossland BC" written underneath. The border is metallic, the plate is yellow/discoloured otherwise. The top and sides around the building have a gold leaf design. 1971.382.8g: Small, round plate with an image of a building in the center, a gold circular border and "Court House, Columbia Ave, Rossland BC" written underneath. The border is metallic, the plate is yellow/discoloured otherwise. The top and sides around the building have a gold leaf design. 1971.382.8h: Small cream pitcher with an image of the town with a building in the center on the side and "Court House, Columbia Ave, Rossland BC" written underneath. The pitcher has a smaller base, larger center and tapers at the top under the spout which has a waved design and comes out past the body. There's metallic colouring on the rim of the spout and under it, gold design on the curved handle, gold around the image and gold around the base. The back of the pitcher is colourless and white. |
Provenance |
The Rossland Court House was designed by John J Honeyman and built by James Lawn, and the Provincial Department of Public Works. Located at 2288 Columbia Avenue, the construction started in 1898 and finished in 1901, The final cost of the building was $53,000.00. Rossland's Court House gained National Heritage status in 1986. |
