Description |
Leather firefighter's helmet that has been painted white with an identification plaque on the front supported by a lion sculpture. The helmet has a round, bulbous top and a wide brim that is stretched around a wire frame. The top of the helmet is made up of eight sections sewn together, making ridges down the exterior of the helmet that have been painted red. There is a red metal finishing piece on the top of the dome, securing all pieces together. The brim at the back of the helmet is considerably longer and wider than the rest of the brim to provide protection to the wearer's neck. There is a faint Rossland Museum stamp on the back right side on the brim with "412" written in blue pen (old accession number). The front of the helmet has a large leather identification plaque that has a red outline and "B.C.F.P. Protection" in large black lettering. There is a small raised "R" and "D" on the bottom of the identification plaque. The plaque is supported/attached to a yellow metal lion sculpture on the top of the helmet. The sculpture is of a lion sitting on its hind legs and resting its front paws on the top of the plaque. The lion's mouth is open, showing teeth. There is a small d-ring on the back of the brim to hang the helmet when not in use. The interior of the helmet hasn't been painted and shows the underlying leather is dark brown or black. There is a silver metal fastener at the top of the dome securing the helmet faster around the leather. The fastener has "John Olson Co" in raised lettering. |
