Description |
Double-sided Swedish-Finnish Benevolent & Aid Association Finland of America Stjärnan I Western No. 35 membership badge. The front of the badge has a blue, yellow, and red vertical stripe, a white top ribbon with crossed America and British Overseas Colony (red with Union Jack in top left corner) flags, a badge bar at the top, and a brass-coloured metal fringe at the bottom. The bottom of the front has "Swedish-Finnish Benevolent & Aid Association Finland of America Stjärnan I Western No. 35 Rossland, B.C." in silver lettering. The badge bar has a bronze border, a white paper interior with "Member" in blue lettering, and a plastic cover. The plastic cover has yellowed with age, giving the interior a yellow appearance. The bottom of the top ribbon is frayed and would have originally held a medallion with the society’s logo on it. The reverse of the ribbon is black with a large "In Memoriam" at the top and the same text as the front at the bottom. Between the two blocks of text there is the society’s logo inside of a laurel wreath. The logo consists of a graphic of two shaking hands with an all-seeing eye above them, in the centre of a ring with the group’s abbreviated name. The name abbreviation is "S.F.S. Finland of America". There is also "Instituted Feb. 5th 1900" underneath the hands. The reverse of the badge bar is brass copper coloured and has a straight pin for attaching to the owner’s clothing. There is a cardstock label between the two layers of ribbon with the manufacturer’s information on it (see inscription for basics and image 4 for all information) |
