Description |
Slide of a black and white photograph of Heath Munn presenting two paintings to Jack McDonald at the Rossland Historical Museum on a red, floral-patterned carpet. Munn is standing on the left and McDonald is on the right. The paintings – one of a steam engine, one of Sourdough Alley – are stacked on top of each other between the men. Both the men have one hand on each of the paintings, ensuring they don't fall over. The photograph has been captured on the carpet as an early digitization or reproduction technique. |

Provenance |
The Rossland Museum was founded in 1954 by the Rossland Rotary Club and operated out of the basement of the Rossland Court House until 1967. The Rossland Museum at its current site (1100 HWY 3B) was built as a Canadian Centennial Project. There have been several additions to the original museum building, including the Nancy Greene Ski Wing (1970), Hunter Brothers and Bottle Rooms (1975), Cominco Wing (1979), tea room (1982), storage (1983), and Western Canadian Ski Hall of Fame (1987). As part of the Rossland Museum's Centennial Project, the Black Bear Mine Adit (although called the Le Roi Mine Tour) was reopened to be part of the Museum's tourism offerings. The Museum ran seasonal mine tours from 1967/68 until 2009 when the mine was closed. The tunnel entrance was collapse in 2011/2012. Visitors to the Museum are still able to see where the entrance was, although it is fenced off for safety reasons. |
