Description |
Colour negative looking down Columbia Avenue towards the edge of Rossland. The Post Office is on the right side of the image. The Post Office is a two-storey building, with porte cochère style entrance. There is a large white pole on top of the post office that goes above the telephone wires. Most of the other buildings on the street are slightly out of focus so their details cannot be made out but several of them have large signs extending from the front. Two of the other businesses on the street are Michael's Department Store and Super-Valu. The Bank of Montreal is near the back of the image. There is a string of lights stretching across the street in by the Post Office and there are mountains in the background. |

Provenance |
The Rossland Post Office is located at 2096 Columbia Avenue. Construction began in 1901 under the direction of Thomas Bradbury and was completed in 1903. The building and outfitting cost $80,000. The Post Office lost its second floor in the 1929 fire on Columbia Avenue. Luckily, the rest of the building was constructed with granite and brick. |
