Description |
Slide of a black and white photograph of Nickel Plate Mine in Rossland with the Centre Star in the background. The Nickel Plate Mine is in the foreground and has five large buildings as well as several smaller buildings. The Centre Star Mine is on the left side of the scene, up a large hill from the Nickel Plate. The entire mine site is not visible, rather just a few of the large buildings are seen. The hill between the two mines is light coloured, indicating that it is likely not the surface rock but rather waste rock from the Centre Star Mine that has been tipped down the hill for storage. |

Provenance |
The Nickel Plate Mine (located where Nickel Plate Park is presently) was in production from 1901-1913 and produced 291,778 grams of gold. The mine also produced silver and copper. The Centre Star was among the claims staked by Joe Moris and Joe Bourgeois in the early 1890s. The mine was operated by the Centre Star Mining Company until 1906 when it was purchased by Consolidated Mining & Smelting Company of Canada. Overall, the Centre Star Mine recovered 34,164,625 grams of gold during its 20 years of production. The Centre Star Mine also had the deepest shaft of all of the Rossland mines, reaching over 2000 feet deep. |
