Description |
Colour photograph of the Red Chair Lift during the summer, captured while riding the chair lift. A wooden chair lift tower is in the centre of the scene, with red chair lift chair attached to the large cables on either side of it. There is a person in a white top sitting on a chair that is two chairs away from the photographer. Power poles are to the right of the chair lift, spaced down the mountain. There are trees on either side of the chair lift clearing as well as in the background. The Red Mountain Ski Club Lodge at the bottom of the mountain completes the scene. |

George Coop and his wife moved to Rossland in 1964 and both of them were employed in the area as teachers. George taught high school art in Trail at the Trail Junior High School, while his wife taught French and English at J.L. Crowe. The couple emigrated to Canada from Victoria, Australia in 1964 and married shortly after they arrived. George took many photos to send to friends and family back in Australia, showcasing the natural beauty of the West Kootenays. The Coop's left Rossland in 1967. |
