Description |
Colour negative of Columbia Avenue, looking east from Washington Street. Only the left side of the street is fully visible in the image, with the Bank of Montreal at the start of the street. The bank is a large, tan brick building with a large entrance with "BANK OF MONTREAL" in large black letters. There is also a large green sign with a white clock attached to the front left of the building. Next to the bank is Michael’s Department Store, followed by Davies Drugs. There are two buildings next that the signs cannot be made out, then there is Payless Variety Store and the Rexall Drugs. A squat grey building is in between the Rexall Drugs and the Rossland Post Office. Only the red brick second storey and the grey porte cochere of the post office are visible. A large white/cream building is across the street from the post office and then a store advertising china. Other buildings that are on the street include the spires of the Rossland Court House, St. George’s Anglican Church, and the bell tower of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. There are 1950s-1960s era cars lining both sides of the street as well as a few driving. There is a woman wearing a blue dress crossing the street in front of the bank. A young boy in a plaid shirt is riding a bike down the right side of the street. There are telephone poles and lines spaced throughout the street. There is also Christmas lights strung across the street in front of the bank. |
