Description |
Slide of a black and white photograph of the CPR Rail Yards with several of the Rossland Mines in the background. The foreground is dominated by four sets of railway tracks that extend into the back of the scene. A train station marked Rossland is on the left side of scene, while a larger building (possibly warehouse) is on the right side. The Agnew & Co building is at the back of the rail yards with a large sign on top and large windows spaced throughout the front. Three of the mines on Red Mountain are visible in the background. The Le Roi Mine is on the left, War Eagle Mine in the centre, and the Centre Star Mine is on the right. The tramway from the War Eagle to the Centre Star runs down the mountain from the War Eagle property. Everything in the scene is dusted in snow. Snowy Mount Roberts in the distance completes the scene. Same as A2025.000.005.013, but doesn't have the discolouration. |

From 1900 to 1936, Agnew & Co. was a successful grocer, dry goods, and mercantile store. Originally run by George Agnew himself, it was bought from him by his son-in-law, Oswald Bisson, in the early 1920s. The Agnew & Co. store closed officially in 1939, and part of the original structure was torn down. Charlie Daily soon bought the building from Bisson and ran a supply store through it. Daily closed his store sometime in the decades after and sold the store to the Adams brothers, who also ran a supply store until the 1960s. The building was later converted into apartments and at time of cataloguing the building houses the Rossland Inn with four, self-contained apartments. |
